With effect from 26 July 2026, all eligible travelers visiting Sri Lanka for tourism must obtain Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arrival.
Nationals of the 40 eligible countries, including Japan may obtain a free 30-day tourist ETA, but prior online approval is mandatory.

H.E. Prof. Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Japan and Minister Counsellor Mrs. Thilini Gunarathna participated in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on 6 August 2026 in Hiroshima City. He observed a one-minute silence and offered flowers in remembrance of the victims, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s enduring commitment to peace and a world free from nuclear weapons.
