Sri Lanka–Japan Mineral Sector Promotion Seminar and Investor Roundtable Discussion

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan, in collaboration with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), successfully organised the Sri Lanka–Japan Mineral Sector Promotion Seminar and Investor Roundtable Discussion on 14 October 2026 at JETRO Headquarters in Tokyo.

The event was graced by Hon. Sunil Handunnetti, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of Sri Lanka, who delivered the keynote address. Representatives of Japanese government agencies, including METI, JOGMEC and JICA, alongside Japanese companies and other key stakeholders, participated in the event to explore opportunities for investment, technical cooperation and business partnerships in Sri Lanka’s mineral sector.

The seminar featured presentations on Sri Lanka’s new mineral policy and investment framework, economic outlook, geological potential and business opportunities. Ten Sri Lankan companies also presented their products and business activities, showcasing the potential for collaboration with Japanese partners.

More than 100 participants from the Japanese side attended the seminar and related sessions, engaging in constructive discussions with the Sri Lankan official delegation and representatives of the visiting private sector companies. The networking sessions provided a valuable opportunity to exchange information, explore potential partnerships and identify avenues for future collaboration.

The event marked an important step towards strengthening Sri Lanka–Japan economic cooperation and promoting mutually beneficial investment and business partnerships for the sustainable development of Sri Lanka’s mineral sector.
