With effect from 26 July 2026, all eligible travelers visiting Sri Lanka for tourism must obtain Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arrival.
Nationals of the 40 eligible countries, including Japan may obtain a free 30-day tourist ETA, but prior online approval is mandatory.

On 31 August 2026, H.E. Prof. Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Japan, paid a courtesy call on Hon. KUROIWA Yūji, Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture, at the Governor's Office. The Ambassador reflected on the historical ties between Japan and Sri Lanka, highlighted investment and tourism opportunities in Sri Lanka, and expressed appreciation for Kanagawa's continued connection with Sri Lanka.
